Hinckley BID Soap Box Derby - Sunday, 26th June!!
Races start at 11.00am sharp
Our 11th Annual Soap Box Derby returns on Sunday, 26th June, so spectators can look forward to fantastic FREE family entertainment between 11.00am and 1.30pm (approx)!
29 teams will battle it out in time trials as they hurtle down Castle Street at impressive speeds, domonstrating skill and courage and, of course, the capabilities of their individually designed machines.
The faster option of taking the 'jump', rather than the chicane, creates added pressure for the driver but definitely adds to the excitement for spectators lining the course. For the spills and thrills, make sure to put the date in your diary so you don't miss out!

NWSLC Awards Recognition
Leicestershire-based staff from North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (NWSLC) have been honoured as part of a prestigious national awards scheme as the college celebrates ‘Thank a Teacher Day’. Both the Foundation Learning team, based at the college’s Wigston Campus, and the Creative Arts team from its Hinckley Campus won Bronze awards for FE Team of the Year, and creative arts lecturer Fiona Rollings picked up a Bronze award in the FE Lecturer of the Year category of the Pearson National Teaching Awards.
The Creative Arts team supports a range of disciplines including performing arts, media, design, music, fashion, and photography. In 2021, students successfully won seven of the college’s 16 medals in the finals of the national WorldSkills UK competitions placing the college at the top of the medals table in England and 4th overall in the UK. The team has set up a competitions club at the Hinckley Campus which provides opportunities for students to get practice skills challenges on their journey towards WorldSkills. Eleven members of the team are working with Fiona Rollings, a peer coach who has benefited from the WorldSkills Centre of Excellence programme.
Marion Plant, OBE FCGI, Principal and Chief Executive at NWSLC said, “We were delighted with the news that the Foundation Learning team, the Creative Arts team, and Fiona Rollings, have been honoured with these awards. They are all completely committed to the college and consistently work well together to deliver the best possible experience for their students. We have enjoyed celebrating these awards at our Wigston and Hinckley Campuses on Thank a Teacher Day.”
