This is an exciting time to join the Housing Options service. The Homelessness Reduction Act has given an opportunity for the service to build on the excellent results already seen around Homelessness prevention.

We are looking for a knowledgeable and dedicated officer to join our team who can draw on proven experience supporting customers in a busy front line service conducting interviews in stressful situations. A skilled negotiator who is persuasive in challenging situations, you will have a working knowledge of housing/homelessness legislation, welfare benefit reforms, rent arrears procedures, private sector housing issues and be able to make decisions applying and interpreting complex legislation as well as local policy.

You will have the ability to handle a large and complex workload offering professional advice on a range of housing options to potentially homeless customers, working with them to resolve their housing situation and preventing homelessness whenever possible by using the right tools and advice for each case, across a wide spectrum of tenures.

The role includes carrying out interviews, home visits, and liaison with other agencies, carrying out negotiations, agreeing and monitoring personal housing plans, interpreting complex information in order to issue a written decision letter, in addition to arranging temporary or permanent accommodation for customers facing homelessness.

Travel around the borough for the role is required and you must be able to participate in the out of hour’s service.

Senior Planning Enforcement Officer

An exciting opportunity has a risen for an ambitious candidate to strengthen our Development Management Team. We are looking to employ a senior level Enforcement Officer on Grade 7 to reflect the complex nature of work the post holder will be expected to undertake.

Working as a Senior Planning Enforcement Officer, you will be responsible for handling planning enforcement cases, dealing with retrospective planning applications, prosecutions and appeals. The successful post holder will also be expected to mentor more junior members of the team.

You will be an excellent communicator, comfortable with handling conflict and negotiating solutions to challenging problems. We will also give you the opportunity to broaden your skills and gain valuable experience to support your career development.

Maintenance Surveyor/Supervisor (Voids)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Maintenance Surveyor/Supervisor, you will be working in a team of Maintenance Surveyors/Supervisors and the successful applicant will within Council dwellings:

  • Carry out surveys to identify defects
  • Prepare specifications of works
  • Issuing of works to workforce and contractors
  • Carry out all aspects of supervising housing repair and maintenance projects
  • Carry out the supervision of our own In-House workforce when required

Applicants should be suitably qualified in the field of Building Construction (HNC or equivalent) and should be self-motivated, accurate and capable of dealing with tenants, contractors and the In-House workforce in a pleasant and responsible manner.

Applicants must be highly motivated to provide quality assurance of all repairs and maintenance works, to ensure the highest quality service for the Councils tenants.

Experience of using computerised systems would be advantageous, and the applicants should possess a full driving licence.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a member of staff to join the Housing and Community Safety service to provide advice and support to those residents affect by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The successful candidate will be responsible for acting as the first point of call to residents who may need support or assistance with varied concerns which may include but are not limited to accessing food, support with wellbeing or financial advice.

In addition, the successful candidate will join our safeguarding team to ensure that all safeguarding concerns are responded to effectively and in a timely way, and provide general assistance with housing enquiries.

Candidates must have excellent organisational skills, the ability to communicate well at all levels; have initiative, work well in a team and have experience of working with vulnerable people and dealing with sensitive issues both on the phone and by interviewing members of the public. Candidates will also be required to work both from the office and from home.
