Save the Date!! Soapbox Derby - It's back on Sunday, 29th June 2025...

Soapbox Derby 2025 - spaces are filling up

Fantastic Family Event - FREE to spectators

Soapbox racing does not get more exciting than on the hill of Castle Street! Back for its 14th year, Soapbox Derby entrants are busy prepping their incredible soapboxes for the demands of this tricky course. The driver makes the choice on each run to take a daunting chicane, or brace for the 'jump' obstacle! It is one of the most exciting events on our Hinckley calendar, so please come and join us for what promises to be a fantastic day of soapbox racing!

This is an entirely FREE event for the public, hosted by Hinckley BID with the support of HBBC. We are also pleased to welcome KWIK FIT as an event sponsor for 2025 and are delighted that they will be racing on the day too.

It is a great family day out which appeals to all ages. Racing starts promptly at 11.00am with huge crowds lining both sides of the Castle Street course. After a big push-off from the start grid, soapboxes make individual time trial runs.

We are welcoming Senior Teams (age 18+) and Junior Teams (12 to 17 years), with entries from Scout groups, local businesses and a lot of committed soapbox enthusiasts who join us year after year.

If you are quick, you may still be able to get an entry!

We are guaranteed to see a range of incredible soapboxes, some of which might raise an eyebrow, we are told!

St Mary's School - Food for Life Award

Congratulations to the staff and students at St Mary's Primary School in Hinckley on their recent award!

The school was delighted to receive a Gold 'Food For Life' Award in Collective Worship earlier this year. Commitment and hard work has transformed the whole school culture through this fantastic initiative. It has enabled the children to learn more about where food comes from, and the benefits of healthy eating and food sustainability.

St Mary's School has expressed its thanks to the Soil Association Food for Life for their support in this fantastic initiative.

This iconic building is managed and staffed entirely by volunteers, and is operated by Hinckley and District Museum which is a  registered charity (no. 1015922).

The museum cottages are the most complete example of half-timbered buildings remaining in Hinckley and date from the seventeenth century, being originally built as a farmhouse. They are of box-frame construction with a tie-beam roof, with brick infill panels of the late 1700s which replaced the original wattle and daub. By the nineteenth century there were three cottages, and these were bought by Colonel Clive Atkins in 1919 and restored and altered to their present appearance between 1927-8. The Hinckley and District Museum has been housed in the cottages since 1996.
