Families Turn Out in Force for Hinckley BID's Summer of Fun

Emergency Services Day

Hinckley town centre was buzzing with excitement on Wednesday 22nd July as hundreds of families enjoyed a fantastic day of free activities at Hinckley BID's Summer of Fun – Emergency Services Day.

The popular event gave visitors the opportunity to meet representatives from Hinckley Police, Leicestershire Search & Rescue, Leicestershire & Rutland Blood Bikes, The Children's Air Ambulance, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, and the Fire Safety Team who were on hand throughout the day, answering questions, demonstrating equipment and engaging with children and adults alike.

Adding to the fun were special appearances from everyone's favourite BID Bear and the spectacular Spidey, kindly provided by Characters for Kids Parties, who delighted children with plenty of smiles, photos and high-fives throughout the event.

Hannah O'Dell, Hinckley BID Events Manager, said:

"It was wonderful to see so many families enjoying the day and taking the opportunity to meet the incredible organisations that work so hard to protect and support our communities. These free events are all about bringing people into the town centre, creating lasting memories and showcasing everything Hinckley has to offer. We'd like to thank everyone who took part and all of our partners for making the event such a fantastic success."

A street worth celebrating

George Street is home to three of Hinckley’s longest-established family businesses, with a remarkable 214 years of combined service to the local community.

From quality menswear and expert alterations to British-made flooring and trusted furniture advice, Philip James Menswear, North Wilshire Carpets and Furnicraft continue to prove the value of independent retailing through outstanding customer service, specialist knowledge and strong family values.

Next year, Philip James Menswear celebrates a century of family menswear heritage, while North Wilshire Carpets marks 60 years of flooring expertise. Furnicraft, established in 1970, has spent more than five decades helping local families furnish their homes.

Now led by the next generation, all three businesses remain committed to quality, personal service and supporting the local economy. Their success is a testament to the loyalty of Hinckley shoppers and the enduring appeal of family-run retail.

Hinckley BID is proud to celebrate these local success stories and encourages residents to visit George Street, discover expert advice, and support businesses that have been serving the town for generations.

Britannia Centre NCP Take over

Parking news for the old NCP car park
Also opening times will be better
More information coming next week

From the 6th August

New operator brings a fresh start to Britannia Shopping Centre car park in Hinckley

The Britannia Shopping Centre car park in the heart of Hinckley is under new management, with parking technology company Hozah taking over the site, giving it a fresh start and making it a more welcoming place to park.

A fresh start for the town-centre car park
Hozah, the UK's leading provider of automated parking technology, has taken over the Britannia car park and is investing in a full refresh of the site. Sitting right in the centre of Hinckley, next to the town's theatre and moments from the high street, the car park is a key gateway for shoppers, workers and visitors, and the company's priority is to restore local confidence in it. The new system goes live on 6th August 2026.

To help with the transition, the Hozah team will be on-site at the Britannia Shopping Centre from Wednesday 5th to Saturday 8th August, on hand to answer questions and help drivers get set up.

A car park that's cared for again
The plans centre on making the car park somewhere people feel happy and confident parking, with well-maintained spaces, clear signage, and a smart, barrierless system that lets drivers come and go hassle-free. Hozah is committed to giving back to the town of Hinckley, from supporting a local charity and backing community events, to extending the car park's opening hours so Concordia Theatre-goers once again have somewhere convenient to park nearby.

Affordable parking for the town
The new tariffs have been set to offer genuine value for shoppers, workers and visitors alike, with parking from just 50p. Full pricing will be displayed clearly on-site and online next week, so drivers always know exactly what they will pay. The full tariffs and payment options will be available at hozah.com/1256 and on the Britannia Shopping Centre's website soon

Parking made simple and fair
Drivers can pay whichever way suits them. Payment kiosks remain on-site for anyone who prefers to pay by card, and app-free one-off payments are available for occasional visitors, with no need to register.

For regular visitors, the simplest option is Hozah AutoPay. Drivers register their number plate and payment details once at hozah.com/signup when it goes live and from then on the system recognises their car and takes payment automatically after each visit, with no tickets and no machines. Because it charges automatically for the exact time parked, AutoPay also removes the risk of forgetting to pay or mistyping a registration, two of the most common reasons drivers receive a Parking Charge.

Win a year's free parking
To mark the launch, Hozah is giving one lucky driver the chance to win a full year of free parking at the Britannia Shopping Centre car park. Anyone who signs up to Hozah AutoPay and parks at the site between 6th August and 30th September 2026 will be automatically entered into the prize draw, with the winner selected in October. Drivers can sign up at hozah.com/signup when it goes live next week
