With a few more businesses opening this week and more Market Traders returning to Hinckley, footfall is slowly continuing to increase and is in line with national data. HBBC staff have worked hard to put Social Distancing markers in place and their 6 Sanitising Stations are currently being installed around the town. Three potentially new town centre businesses are getting close to making final decisions which would be a welcome boost.
Hinckley’s CONCORDIA THEATRE WINS THE QUEENS AWARD
Many CONGRATULATIONS to the HINCKLEY CONCORDIA ASSOCIATION which has won the prestigious THE QUEEN’S AWARD FOR VOLUNTARY SERVICE - the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK.
Coming up to 50 years of shows at the Concordia Theatre, this former derelict knitting factory, converted into the spacious modern, cutting edge 400-seater theatre complex and community building we have today, is run entirely by volunteers to professional standards.
The Hinckley Concordia Association is one of 230 charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups to receive the prestigious award this year. The number of nominations remains high year on year, showing that the voluntary sector is thriving and full of innovative ideas to make life better for those around them.
The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service aims to recognise outstanding work by volunteer groups to benefit their local communities. It was created in 2002 to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. Recipients are announced each year on 2nd June, the anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation. Award winners this year are wonderfully diverse.
Representatives of The Hinckley Concordia Association will receive the award from The Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Michael Kapur OBE later this summer. Furthermore, two volunteers from The Hinckley Concordia Association will attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in May 2021, along with other recipients of this year’s Award.

“We are immensely proud and honoured to receive the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK. This pays tribute to the hard work and commitment of all our volunteers who have given their skills, talents and time freely over every area of the complex. Their work over the past half century has been invaluable in providing a thriving voluntary run community theatre and local community hub. Without them we simply would not be able to do what we do. On behalf of everyone who enjoys a visit to Concordia, we would like to thank and congratulate each and every one of our volunteers, past and present.”
Furlough Deadlines by June 10th
On Friday, the Chancellor announced that the Job Retention Scheme will officially close to new applicants on the 30th of June. But that anyone who wants to put new employees on furlough, must do so by the 10th of June.
That gives you less than seven working days to furlough someone for the first time. So if you were planning on furloughing more of your staff over the next few weeks, you’re now running out of time—and fast.
