As we move towards spring, Hinckley is ready to welcome back an old favourite.

This week sees the return of fliptastic fun as Hinckley BID’s ninth annual Pancake Day Race rushes into town.

However, that’s not all that March has in store in the town - there are also Mother’s Day specials, a comedy and cocktail club and vocal masterclasses to be enjoyed.

Here is our monthly round-up of all the key dates for your diary this March.

Applique Workshop
Saturday March 2nd – 2.00pm to 4.00pm
COPAH Studios, Holliers Walk

Understand how to use applique to create motifs and add personalisation to projects. Fabric and refreshments are included in the ticket price of £25 per person, with booking essential. Hinckley BID’s 9th Annual Pancake Day Race
Shrove Tuesday, March 5th, 12 noon
Castle Street, Hinckley

The fun returns as Hinckley BID’s ninth annual pancake race takes place from Clark’s on Castle Street. Show off your pancake tossing skills or just have fun spectating at the Pancake Race, which is free for all to enjoy. All pancakes will be provided, you just need to bring your frying pan. There is a junior and senior category and individual or team entries are welcome. Trophies are awarded by the Mayor for junior and senior winners and there is also an award for the ‘funniest costume’ and one for ‘excellent effort’. Neck medals are given to every entrant. Community Cafe in the Pavilion

Come along to Hollycroft Park to enjoy a coffee and a chat. Here's a chance to meet new people whilst enjoying the beautiful surroundings of this award-winning park. Free event.

Little Shop of Horrors
Wednesday March 6th, 7.30pm to 9.30pm
Hinckley Academy & John Cleveland Sixth Form College

This wonderful musical is open to all and features talented Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form College (HAJC) students. Please join the fun, but remember - beware and don't feed the plants! Tickets cost £10 for adults and £7 for children and students and are available from the Academy’s main reception (opening times: 8am to 4pm on Monday to Thursday).

Social Sewing
Thursday March 7th, 6.30pm to 9.00pm
The Sewing Cafe, Upper Castle Street

This monthly get-together gives people the chance to get together, sew and chat! Make the most of the space and sewing machines at The Sewing Cafe, bring along your current project or stat a new one, and meet like-minded stitchers! Cost is £3 per person, with tea and coffee included in the price. 

Comedy & Cocktail Club
Sunday March 10th
Carter’s Lounge, Waterloo Road

Love comedy and cocktails? Carter’s Lounge is the place to be this March! The popular, family-run cafe / bar has hooked up with Collywobbles Comedy to bring you world-class comedy stars. Tickets are priced at £10 and limited to 40 guests for this one-off event. There will be a happy hour on all drinks throughout the evening and hot dogs available during intervals. Lunchtime Talk at Hinckley Library

Come along to Hinckley Library’s series of monthly lunchtime talks. The talks fall on the third Friday of every month and usually sell out fast. You are welcome to bring along your lunch for the session and a tea or coffee is included in the price of £3 (for library members) and £4.50 (for non-members). This month’s talk sees David Foulds talk about ‘An extravagant journey by Orient Express to Lake Garda and Venice’. Booking is essential. Call the library on 0116 305 2500.

Bistro Night
Friday March 15th
Petite Chouette Cafe Bar, Regent Street

Join the family-run French cafe for a laid-back, friendly evening. The cafe will be fairy-lit to help you enjoy a three-course set menu (£25pp) in an intimate setting. Petite Chouette specialises in freshly-prepared dishes, using locally-supplied (wherever possible, high quality and seasonal ingredients. Food is all made in the cafe’s kitchen and inspired by France. First Anniversary Party

Make a Pinafore Dress Workshop

Create a cute, A-line reversible pinafore (0/3m - 7/8y) with press stud closures. Tinters Great Musicals Extravaganza

Armed Forces Coffee Morning

Older veterans and their spouses, carers, widows and widowers are welcome. Led by Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland and supported by the Borough Council. You’ll receive a warm welcome, free cake and refreshments.

Hinckley and District Museum Talk
Thursday March 21st, 7.30pm
Hinckley Great Meeting Chapel, Baines Lane

The second Hinckley & District Museum talk of the year will be held by Paul Griffiths, who will talk about Hinckley’s housing pioneers - early council housing in Hinckley and district. Coding Fun

Starring Raphaela Papdakis (Soprano) and accompanist. Raphaela studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and is a winner of the National Mozart Competition. Tickets can be bought on the door and are £12 for adults, £5 for students and free for children.

Vocal Masterclass With David Barrell
Saturday March 30th, 10.00am - 5.00pm
United Reformed Church

As part of Hinckley Opera Festival 2019, enjoy a free masterclass held by renowned voice teacher and vocal coach David Barrell with one of Britain's leading accompanists, Nigel Foster, on the piano. In the morning, a group of young singers, aged 30 and under and selected for their promise, have each prepared a piece especially for this masterclass. They will then be given expert tuition by David Barrell, one of the country’s top vocal coaches. In the afternoon, it will be time for the adult singers to work on their vocal techniques.

Musical Memories for Mother’s Day

Join Sandra Maydwell at Hinckley Library for some musical memories for Mother’s Day. Sit back and enjoy a Yorkshire tea, coffee and biscuits served to your table. There will be some nostalgic items to reminisce over, as well as the chance to sing along to your favourite musical memories from the 1950s and 1960s. Tickets cost £3.50 and must be pre-booked. Mother’s Day Prosecco Afternoon Tea

Masterclass Recital
