As we move into November, Hinckley is ready to sparkle as it gears up for the festive season.

This month will see the annual Christmas lights switch-on, complete with Tin Hat fair and fireworks, as well as a series of Bonfire Night spectaculars that are not to be missed.

Here is our round-up of everything to keep in your diaries this month:

Weaving Goodbye Exhibition
October 15 – November 14th, 9.00am - 4.00pm
Atkins Building and Gallery, Lower Bond Street

Weaving Goodbye was an exhibition by local artist Julie Ridington in 2017 which explored Hinckley’s industrial past through photography, sculpture and drawing. The return of Weaving Goodbye expands on the original theme by looking at now redundant buildings and spaces and showcasing their former use. 

Advent Competition
October – November 24th
Hinckley Library

Hinckley Library is offering both adults and children alike the chance to take part in a free prize draw to win fantastic festive goodies. Adults are in with a chance of winning a Lindt chocolate advent calendar worth £20 and children aged 5 years and up can win a Lego Advent Calendar worth £29.99.

Both adults and children can claim their free raffle ticket and enter each time they borrow four or more items from the library between the competition dates.

Lino Cutting Christmas Cards
Saturday November 1st and December 8th
Ten 2 Art Gallery and Art Studio, Upper Castle Street, Hinckley

Artist Sarah Holden will help students to create their own A5 Christmas cards. They will learn how to design and carve for lino cutting, before creating two colour-reduction lino prints and their very own set of cards for the festive season.
 Week 1- Carving and cutting techniques
 Week 2- Final carving and printing.

Mallory Park Bonfire and Firework Showtacular
Friday November 2nd
Mallory Park Circuit, Kirkby Mallory

The Mallory Park annual bonfire and firework spectacular returns on Friday 2 November. Enjoy a riot of colour with an evening of live music, fairground rides, food, drink, a huge bonfire and spectacular firework display. Bonfire & Fireworks Night
Saturday November 3rd, 6.00pm - 8.30pm
The Wharf, Coventry Road, Hinckley

Another fireworks extravaganza will see Hinckley sparkle. Expect a roaring bonfire, complete with food and drinks on the night. Tickets cost £5 per adult. Children go free if accompanied by an adult, or £3 without.

Hinckley Rugby Club Firework Fiesta
Sunday November 4th, 4.00pm - 9.00pm
Hinckley Rugby Club, Leicester Road

Hinckley Rugby Club presents a firework fiesta that's not to be missed. Families can make the most of a circus workshop and Punch & Judy show, as well as a fun fair with a mixture of rides to suit ages 5-14. There will also be an old-fashioned pub singer who will be taking requests in the clubhouse, as well as Jonathan's fireworks display. Tickets cost £6 for adults, £4 for children, or an early bird deal of £15 for two adults and two children.

Strictly Fun
Monday November 4 (and every Monday until December 17), 10.00am - 11.00am

Put on your trainers for one hour of dancing fun – no partner required. The dance exercise routines are for all ages and abilities and are made up of simple dance moves, using a variety of music, in different dance styles. Jive Night
Friday November 9th, 7.30pm - 11.15pm
Wykin & District Social Club, Frederick Avenue, Hinckley

Jive, bop and stroll along to top DJs playing the best in rock 'n' roll. Doors open 7.30pm, music plays until 11.15pm. Three Cracking Comedies and a Fish & Chip Supper

Start your weekend with a giggle with these three, one-act comedies which includes a fish and chip supper. Bring your own tipple, glasses will be provided. Mary Forryan Centre, St Peter’s Catholic Church, Hinckley

This Churches Together event allows you to browse 22 stalls from local and international charities, giving you and your family the chance to choose Christmas gifts to be sent in the name of your loved ones to people in need at home and abroad. You can enjoy coffee and cake while you select your gifts.

Remembrance Sunday
Sunday November 11th, 10.30am - 11.30am
Hinckley War Memorial, Argents Mead

The annual Remembrance Sunday parade and service in honour of those who have fought for their country in conflict. This will be a special service to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the end of the First World War.

There will also be a special event in the evening from 6:55pm when the last post will be played in Argents Mead. This is followed by the beacon lighting in Argents Mead at 7pm, the ringing out for peace (St Mary's church bells will ring) at 7:05pm. At 7:10pm Joe David, Hinckley's town crier, will deliver a specially-written piece entitled 'Cry for Peace Around the World'.

Sunday Munch

Christmas Lights Switch-On and Tin Hat Fair
Friday November 16th, from 4.00pm
Hinckley town centre and Argents Mead

The bells will be ringing out for Christmas at the annual Christmas lights switch-on, which will feature lots of entertainment and attractions for all the family throughout the evening.

The lights will be switched on at 6:30pm and are followed by a fantastic fireworks display over St Mary's church. There will be a Santa's grotto, reindeer, live entertainment, market stalls and late night shopping.

The Tin hat fair will be in Regent Street on Friday and Saturday Night. There will also be free children's activities in the United Reformed Church from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. For more information or to book a stall at the event, visit our Christmas Lights switch on web pages nearer the time. 

Buttercream Tearoom
Friday November 16th
Buttercream Tearoom, Regent’s Court, Hinckley 

Buttercream Tearoom will be staying open late and serving mulled wine and other festive drinks, as well as turkey cobs with pigs in blankets, roast potatoes & dipping gravy. There will also be mince pies and other cakes to choose from. The bar will be open for gin and other drinks. Lunchtime Talk

Hinckley Library

Come along to Hinckley Library’s series of monthly lunchtime talks: ‘Listen While You Lunch’. The talks fall every third Friday of the month from 12 noon until 1pm and tickets very often sell out fast. You are welcome to bring along your lunch for the session and a tea/coffee is included in the price of £3 (for library members) and £4.50 (for non-members). This month’s talk is called ‘Six Pairs of Knickers and  Fur Coat: Further Tales of Grandma in the 1950s’ with Sandra Maydwell.

Booking is essential, so please pre-book your ticket from the Help Point at Hinckley library before the talk.

Christmas Gift Fair

The Christmas gift fair returns to the Atkins Gallery, featuring Christmas gift ideas and other festive treats.

There will be a huge range of stalls to get you in the Christmas mood and a chance to tick some items off from your Christmas shopping list. The event is free to enter.


Conservation Volunteer Day

Pack Up Your Troubles

Christmas Tree Festival
