After the hectic hustle and bustle of Christmas, we are easing into January with plenty to keep the family entertained.

This month, we welcome the inspirational Fifty Fantastic Females exhibition to the Atkins Building, while Hinckley Library will also be helping families stay healthy with its Healthy Heroes event.

LEGO Construction Club
Saturday January 5th and January 19th, 10.30am – 12.00pm

If you’re struggling to keep the kids entertained, then pop along to Hinckley Library and let their imaginations run wild. The LEGO construction club returns for its first session of 2019, giving youngsters the chance to play and have fun with LEGO. For more information, call 0116 305 2500.

Barefoot Yoga, Yoga Bananas Classes for Kids
Monday, January 7th, 5.00pm – 5.30pm 
Hinckley Leisure Centre

Fifty Fantastic Females Exhibition
Monday January 7th, 9.00am – 4.00pm
Atkins Building, Lower Bond Street

The follow up exhibition to the Famous Fifty is Fifty Fantastic Females, a touring exhibition celebrating the Rights of Women following the centenary last year. This exhibition features famous women from history like Boudicca and local suffragette Alice Hawkins, to modern author Julia Donaldson, creator of the Gruffalo’s Child. The achievements of the fantastic females are depicted on female silhouettes decorated by local schoolchildren, artists and community groups.

Can Sing, Can’t Sing, Wanna Sing
Monday January 14th, 10.00am – 12.00pm
Ten2Studio & Art Gallery, Upper Castle Street, Hinckley

This fun, ten-week course is held by Carl Hodson and involves a relaxed, group class to help you to learn to enjoy the health benefits and wellbeing of singing. No equipment or experience is necessary. Tickets cost £75. Call the Studio on Hinckley 636339 for more. 

Life Drawing
Wednesday January 16th, 7.00pm – 9.00pm
Ten2Studio & Art Gallery, Upper Castle Street, Hinckley

If you want to learn a new skill for New Year, then this is the class for you! Tutor Scott Bridgwood will be helping budding artists to learn how to life draw on this ten-week course. Each class (there is also another class available, starting from Monday January 14th at 2.00pm – 4.00pm) will help you to learn life drawing of the human figure, from observation and usually from naked models. Scott will guide you through various postures and the use of various drawing and painting media. Tickets cost £130. Call Hinckley 636339 for more. 

Listen While You Lunch

Come along to the library's monthly series of talks, and learn something as you eat! This month sees Peter Liddle speaking about the Archaeology of Bradgate Park. Tickets cost £3 for members and £4.50 for non-members and must be pre-booked: telephone 0116 305 2500 for more.

Healthy Heroes
Saturday January 26th, 10.30am – 12.00pm
Hinckley Library

Learn how to stay healthy as a family, thanks to this fun and inspiring event. The library will be holding activities for all the family, including making fruit kebabs, parachute games, a treasure hunt and more. This is a free, drop-in event which is suitable for ages two years and above, all welcome
