Valentine’s Day is just around the corner - and Hinckley is in the mood for love.

This February, some of the town’s independent businesses will be hosting their own Valentine’s events, while others will be celebrating their first birthdays in style.

From couples’ pottery to birthday bashes and even a Doctor Who-themed event, here is everything that is happening this February in Hinckley.
 

Fifty Fantastic Females Exhibition
Friday February 1st – 9.00am to 4.00pm
The Atkins Building, Lower Bond Street, Hinckley

Today is the last day to view this empowering display. The follow up exhibition to the Famous Fifty is Fifty Fantastic Females, a touring exhibition celebrating the Rights of Women Centenary 1918-2018.

The exhibition features famous women from history like Boudicca and local suffragette Alice Hawkins to modern author Julia Donaldson, creator of the Gruffalo’s Child. The achievements of the fantastic females are depicted on female silhouettes decorated by local schoolchildren, artists and community groups.
 

Cut Price Suites 1st Birthday Party
Saturday February 2nd
Cut Price Suites, Castle Street

Celebrate the first year of Cut Price Suites and Proppa Coffee, who moved into the former Co-op building last February. The past year has seen the family-run business go from strength-to-strength, smashing all of their predicted sales records. Pop along and join in the celebrations, with plenty of great offers and live entertainment by the fantastic Neil Mason.
 

Jolly Day In
Tuesday February 5th – 6.00pm onwards
The Railway Inn, Station Road

The popular Inn will be toasting everything which the Great British Pub has to offer while raising money for Hope Against Cancer with an evening of complimentary food, drink and live entertainment. There is a suggested £10 minimum donation to charity. The Railway Inn will also be hosting plenty of other events throughout the month, including Pie Night on each Thursday evening. 


Community Cafe at the Pavilion
Wednesday February 6th – 10.00am
Hollycroft Park, Shakespeare Drive, Hinckley

Friends of Hollycroft Park return to host the popular community cafe once again this year. Join other welcoming, friendly residents for tea or coffee and cake in the pavilion - there’s a chance to meet friends, enjoy good company and make the most of the award-winning park.


Petite Chouette 1st Birthday Bash
Saturday February 9th – 8.30am to 4.30pm
Petite Chouette, Regent Street

Another family-run business is celebrating a year of opening in Hinckley this month. French-style cafe Petite Chouette will celebrate with fabulous live music - including a performance by musicians from the Leicester Symphony Orchestra, plus a resident accordion player - as well as birthday treats, specials on offer and even bubbles on the house. Pop along to say bonjour. 
 

Valentine’s Night @ The Pottery Shed
Thursday February 14th – 7.00pm to 10.00pm
The Pottery Shed, Hansom Court

Enjoy a Valentine’s Day evening with a difference at this fun and creative night at The Pottery Shed. Couples - or friends! - are invited to a romantic night painting pottery together. Lunchtime Talk
Friday February 15th – 12.00pm to 1.00pm
Hinckley Library

Pop along to Hinckley Library’s series of monthly lunchtime talks: ‘Listen While You Lunch’. The talks fall every third Friday of the month from 12 noon until 1pm and tickets often sell out fast. This month’s talk is on ‘The Life of a Tudor Woman’ and is being held by Elizabeth Hornsby. You are welcome to bring along your lunch for the session and a tea/coffee is included in the price of £3 (for library members) and £4.50 (for non-members). Booking is essential, so please pre-book your ticket from the Help Point at Hinckley Library before the talk or by calling 0116 305 2500. 


Book Sale
Monday February 18th - Monday March 4th

Book worms can bag themselves a bargain at the return of Hinckley Library’s book sale. The sale includes both adult and children’s stock and will be held until Monday March 4. Stock up your book shelves with popular authors and recent best sellers and check out ex-rental DVDs and talking book, too. All items are very reasonably priced. 


National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
Monday February 18th - Friday February 22nd
Hinckley Leisure Centre

Anyone looking to train as a lifeguard is welcome to join this full course to gain a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. The course costs £220 - to be paid in full at the time of booking - and bookings must be made in advance. Assessment for the NPLQ is at the end of the course. Doctor Who: An Adventure in Time & Space
Wednesday February 20th –10.30am - 12.00pm
Hinckley Library

Travel through different times and eras with fun Doctor Who inspired activities for half-term. There will be lots of crafts to make and take home, including a galaxy in a bottle and a time capsule. Feel free to come dressed up as your favourite Doctor, alien or character. All ages welcome, tickets cost £1 per child. No need to book, just turn up!
