Now that we are into December, we are stepping into Christmas with the fun and festive offerings that you can enjoy in Hinckley this month.

From magical Santa’s grottos to festive family fun runs, Tree festivals and much more, there is plenty to keep you entertained – and to get you into the Christmas spirit – this month.

Here is our guide to everything that’s happening in Hinckley over the festive season.

Christmas Tree Festival
November 29th – Monday December 3rd
St Mary’s Church, Hinckley

Enjoy St Mary’s annual and magical Christmas Tree Festival. This year’s offering will see the church transformed with 80 beautifully decorated trees, as well as lights and decorations. There will also be refreshments available to enjoy throughout the festival. The festival is open Friday, Saturday and Monday from 10am-4pm and on Sunday from mid-day.

Lino Cutting Christmas Cards
Saturday 1st and 8th December
Ten2Gallery, Upper Castle Street

Christmas artist Sarah Holden will help crafty students to make their own two colour, A5 Christmas cards. She will take them on a step-by-step guide of how to design and carve for lino cutting, before learning how to create lino prints and making their very own set of cards for the festive season. Tuesday December 4th (and Tuesdays until 18th December), 1.30pm – 3.30pm
Pathways Centre, Baptist Walk

Join us on Tuesdays for tea, chat, friendship and varied activities that are suitable for all. Activities include craft, games, knitting, puzzles, seated exercise. Call 01455 890026 or 01455 619519 for more information. Tickets cost £3.50 per person or £6 with a carer.

Christmas Lights Car Tour
Wednesday December 5th, 6.00pm – 8.00pm
Hinckley Town Centre

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and the Hinckley United Reformed Church invite local disabled and elderly residents to come into Hinckley to enjoy the Christmas lights.

Castle Street will be opened to traffic from 6.00pm to 7.30pm so you can drive elderly and disabled friends and relatives down at your leisure, then park in Regent Street outside the United Reformed Church.

Hot drinks, mince pies and festive entertainment will be available in the United Reformed Church.

Famous Fifty Exhibition
Wednesday December 5th – December 28th
Atkins Gallery, Lower Bond Street

Enjoy this commemorative, multi-faceted project honouring the Famous Fifty and their contribution and sacrifice in WWI.

The Famous 50 were the first men to volunteer for service at the start of WW1 and were the first to set foot on French soil. These men are now having their story told through the Famous Fifty exhibition which features 50 WW1 soldier silhouettes which have been decorated by individuals, local groups, schools, and artists.

Burbage Common Litter Pick-Up
Saturday December 8th, 9.30am – 11.30am
Burbage Common (Leicester Road)

Mayor of Hinckley & Bosworth, Councillor Jan Kirby, is urging local residents to join her for a Christmas Litter Pick at Burbage Common. The council’s Clean Neighbourhood team will provide all equipment, including high visibility vests, rubbish bags, protective gloves and litter sticks and, as way of a thank you, tea, coffee and mince pies will be provided free of charge to all volunteers.  

Anybody interested in joining the Mayor should meet at the car park next to the café. Children and pets are welcome.

Harmonic Voices, Burbage Community Choir

Christmas Choir Showcase
Saturday December 8th, 10.00am – 3.00pm
Hinckley Library, Lancaster Road

Listen to the sounds of the festive season as Hinckley Library is joined by local school choirs performing Christmas songs throughout the day.

Sit back with a hot chocolate, a mince pie and enjoy! Performances include:

Festive Family Fun Run
Sunday December 9th, 10.30am
Market Place, Hinckley

Join Hinckley BID and Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council for this festive-themed family fun run. The fun begins at 10.30am in Market Place with a warm-up with our resident Healthy Elf. The Fun Run itself starts at 11.00am. All age groups and abilities welcome. Festive fancy dress please, or wear your Christmas jumper!

There will be medals for everyone sporting a festive theme, a £50 voucher awarded to the best costume and two lucky runners-up will each receive a voucher for £25. We also welcome well-behaved dogs (on leads) in fancy dress too!

Winter Welly Walk
Sunday December 9th, 1.30pm –3.30pm
Burbage Common

Raise money for Cancer Research UK and enjoy a festive Family Winter welly walk at the same time. There will be a treasure hunt along the way, as well as a Christmas hamper raffle, hot chocolate Rudolph cones and hot chocolate mugs for sale. Plus, there will be a surprise for kids and adults at the end. 

Christmas jumpers are encouraged. Cost is £5 per person, £15.00 family of 4, £20.00 family of 5.

Carols Around the Tree
Friday December 14th, 4.00pm – 5.00pm
Market Place

Come and join in the spirit of Christmas by singing carols around the town centre Christmas tree. Churches Together and Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council invite you to Hinckley Carols around the tree which will be taking place at 4pm in the Market Place in Hinckley. All are welcome to attend.


Listen While You Lunch
Friday December 14th, 12.00pm – 1.00pm
Hinckley Library, Lancaster Road

Learn as you lunch at this special, Christmas-themed talk at Hinckley Library. This month will see Nick Marshall chat about Christmastime before Christmas, with Winter festivals held by the Celts and Romans. Tickets cost £3 for library members or £4.50 for non-members. Booking is required.

Enderby Band Christmas Concert
Friday December 14th, 7.30pm
Hinckley Salvation Army Hall, Lancaster Road

The Salvation Army Hall will come alive with the sounds of Christmas, thanks to the Enderby Band, along with special guests Hinckley Rock Choir. Tickets cost £8, with concession prices £6. Tickets can be purchased from Elaine Cooke on 0116 277 4422.

Moo Music Baby Christmas Cracker
Saturday December 15th, 1.00pm – 3.00pm
St Francis Community Centre, Hinckley

Enjoy a fun, festive Christmas cracker with this Baby Moo session. All baby moo-vers, both old and new, are welcome. There will be singing and dancing, plus a special visit from the Big Man himself, along with presents. It may even snow... tickets cost £12.50 per child. Ticket booking is necessary. Christmas Wreaths, Table Decorations and Door Hangings    
Saturday December 15th

Try your hand at making willow wreaths, winter table decorations, door hangings, stars, nests and even the odd reindeer if you wish! Using richly-coloured materials, gathered from hedgerows (you are welcome to bring elements from your own garden if you wish), Jean Savage will show you how to create these beautiful displays. With aromatic scents and tactile appeal these natural decorations will help create a warm and homely atmosphere just in time for Christmas. Tickets cost £55 including materials.

Merry Munch

Market Place

Stock up on any last minute gifts and enjoy Christmas-themed food and drink at the last Sunday Munch of the year. Guests can expect to enjoy festive foods, as well as stalls selling crafts, homeware, collectables, gifts and more.

Santa’s Amazing Grotto
Wednesday December 19th – Saturday December 23rd
Britannia Centre (former Argos unit), Hinckley

Hinckley BID will be hosting a very special guest on five days during December at a secret hideaway in the Britannia Centre. All the way from Lapland, Santa and his helpers will be welcoming children and parents to magical Winter Wonderland grotto to hear all about Christmas wishes! Under 3s go free, tickets cost £2 for children 3 years and older. Santa will have a gift for every child (minimum value £2) and no booking is required.

Sing-a-Long Santa Quiz

The Railway Inn, Station Road

Sing your heart out to Christmas carols and take part in a special Santa quiz at this festive event at the Steamin’ Billy favourite. The quiz features a ‘no question’ cash stash, plus sack loads of surprises. Tickets cost £2.00 per person.

Boxing Day Live Entertainment

Silchar, Lower Bond Street

Continue celebrating into Boxing Day with Silchar’s festive offering. For £5 per person, you can enjoy the live music, courtesy of Gary Priestley. A Glittering New Year’s Eve: Minogue Into Midnight
The Railway Inn, Station Road
Monday December 31st, from 7.00pm.

Especially for you, this glittering party will give residents the chance to see in the New Year in style. There will be a three-course menu and a Kylie Minogue tribute act, so pull on your dancing shoes! Tickets cost £29.95 per person with a £10 deposit per person.
